Who we are

The Company

JOHT Resources Ltd was established in June 2012, is based in Cornwall and works across the UK. 

Jo Talbot is the founding Director of the company. She is an economic regeneration and planning professional with extensive experience in:

  • Project development
  • Policy and Strategy development
  • Evaluation/assessment
  • Rural development
  • European programmes
  • Spatial planning policy and practice

Jo's experience has developed through 13 years in public sector led planning and regeneration work followed by 17 years in private sector consultancy in similar fields. Jo's professional qualifications are in spatial planning and she is a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. Before founding JOHT Resources Ltd, Jo had worked for Roger Tym & Partners where she was a Senior Associate, Shropshire County Council, the Rural Development Commission, Cornwall County Council and Runnymede Borough Council. Houston Economic Consulting Ltd. Houston Economic Consulting Ltd. (HECL) is an independent consultancy specialising in economic development, land use planning and tourism & recreation. Dominic Houston is Director of HECL and has over 20 years of research and economic development experience. HECL works across the UK independently and in partnership with other professionals as part of multi-disciplinary teams. HECL has successfully worked with JOHT Resources Ltd on a variety of planning, economic development and tourism projects, based on complementary skills, a common set of values and a long-standing professional relationship.

Catalys Ltd; Catalys Ltd was established in 2012, bringing together the expertise of a network of experienced rural development practitioners from Wales and England. The Company has undertaken a range of commissions including evaluation and impact assessment work in England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, as well as in South East Europe. Ian Baker, Director of Catalys, has worked in rural development for nearly 30 years. Prior to the establishment of Catalys he led rural development strategy and programme development for Advantage West Midlands and was Head of Rural Economy for Defra. His expertise in rural development is a valuable complement to JOHT Resources Ltd and the two companies work well together to provide rural development and evaluation services to clients.

Ash Futures Ltd: Ash Futures Ltd specialises in strategic planning, economic development, foresight, scenario planning, sustainability and stakeholder engagement. It was established in 2011. It's Director, Simon Hooton, has long experience in economic planning, European policy, sustainability and futures issues including in the voluntary and local authority sectors and most latterly as Director of Strategy for the former South West Regional Development Agency. Ash Futures has successfully worked with JOHT Resources Ltd on strategy development and evaluation projects, providing complementary skills and sharing common values for working with clients. 

Christabel Myers; Christabel helps people working together on spatial planning and economic development achieve their goals and maximise outcomes, acting variously as facilitator, expert advisor, team coach and evaluator. Christabel has expertise particularly on European funded cooperation initiatives such as INTERREG and ESPON. She headed the international planning unit in the Department for Communities and Local Government and other policy units there for many years. As a consultant she has assisted European programme secretariats and project partnerships, local government, universities and other organisations. Christabel's extensive knowledge and experience in EU territorial co-operation and research programmes, linked to spatial planning, provides valuable services and capacity for working with JOHT Resources Ltd in EU programmes and projects.

Polaris SW Ltd. Chrissie Hogg is a Director of Polaris SW Ltd and an economic development specialist. Chrissie has skills and experience in developing project business cases and business plans; preparing successful funding applications to UK and European sources for regeneration and environmental projects; carrying out economic impact assessments and feasibility studies; researching and writing prospectuses and vision documents. Chrissie's particular expertise in preparation of project business cases in support of funding as well as her skills in writing promotional and lobby documents, adds valuable services to those of JOHT Resources Ltd, for the benefit of clients
